A New Take on Chi Japanese Cuisine

altI love, love, love sushi. Before we had kids, my husband and I used to frequent Chi Japanese Cuisine in Oak Ridge North quite a bit. They have huge rounded banquettes that make for fun, intimate seating for a date night. Now many years later with plenty of kids in tow, we rarely get out for sushi, let alone a date night! I've driven by the location a few times recently and noticed that they now advertise themselves as an all you can eat restaurant. On a recent date night we decided to give Chi a fresh try.

Unlike a buffet, Chi has guests order anything they want from a specific All You Can Eat menu that includes soup, salad, appetizers, sashimi, nigiri, cooked and raw rolls, fried rice, udon, hibachi items and dessert. If you're out with sushi-phobic friends, there's plenty of choices to keep them happy.

"Love Us Back" - The Woodlands Children's Museum and FREE Pizza

It's a fun (and delicious) campaign for a great cause! The Woodlands Children's Museum is holding its annual fundraiser now through March 20, to gather much-needed supplies for the museum.  It's called "Love Us Back," a campaign represented by a large paper tree with hearts on it, displayed in the museum's lobby. Each heart names a supply or service that is on the museum's wish list. (Most of these items are super easy to donate - dish soap, batteries, glue sticks, gift cards, to name a few.)  Guests can select a heart, bring it back with the needed supplies, and receive a coupon for a free pizza at Zazza Pizza Cafe. Yeah - free pizza, baby!

Apple Store Offers Free Sessions For Kids & Teachers

altThe Apple Store at The Woodlands Mall offers free, hour-long, kid-focused sessions that teach kids how to code, work with robots and spark their creativity. The Kids Hour sessions are open to ages 4 to 12 years (depending on the session) and the Hour of Code session is open to kids 12 and older. No tech gear is necessary; you can bring your own iPad or Apple can provide gear for use during the session. The best part? Sessions are held early Friday evening and during Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The Apple Store also offers sessions exclusively for teachers, including field trips.

Road Trips from The Woodlands: Dallas / Fort Worth

altThe Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is a smooth four hour drive north of The Woodlands and offers plenty of options for family fun, perfect for an extended weekend getaway.

One of my absolute favorite attractions is contained within the grounds of the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. The expansive Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden  is a beautifully designed garden with interactive exhibits for kids.
