Tickled Pink at Pinkalicious: The Musical at Main Street Theater

alt
With two preschoolers and a kindergartener, my family has amassed a huge collection of the popular Pinkalicious books by Elizabeth Kann & Victoria Kann. I was excited to learn that the original book has been made into a family friendly musical being performed at Main Street Theater in Midtown Houston through the end of July.

The story follows Pinkalicious, a young girl who loves, loves, loves pink and is thrilled to wake up pink after overindulging in her mother's pink cupcakes. While Pinkalicious' pink dreams have come true, her shocked parents take her straight to the doctor where she's diagnosed with a case of pinkititis. The only cure for pinkatitis? To eat green foods. Pink gets a lesson in self-control with a little help from her brother Peter, their parents and the whole Pinktastic crew in this delightful musical.

altHave your daughters dress in their most adorable pink dresses with tiaras and wands and they will be in great company. The show is perfect for a special Mother-Daughter date or girls' trip, but no need to worry - boys will also find plenty to enjoy in Peter and Dad's storylines (as well as an answer to the burning question - is pink just for girls?). The show features 19 toe-tapping, upbeat songs that are sure to bring a smile to the whole family. I've found that my kids (like most!) get a bit antsy sitting still and I could tell they appreciated the actors breaking the fourth wall a few times to ask the audience for help or advice.

With the intimate theater size, there is really not a bad seat in the house. The show ran just under an hour and a half with a twenty minute intermission (perfect for a quickly walk into the breezeway for a snack). Also in the breezeway is a concession stand and a merchandise stand with plenty of Pinkalicious books and gear. Kids receive their own playbill with a Peterrific Word Game and autograph page (actors appear in the breezeway following the performance).

Performances run Saturday through July 28 at 11:00am and 2:00pm and Sundays, July 15 - 29 at 12:30pm and 3:30pm at MST's Midtown location, 3400 Main St. in Housotn. All tickets are on sale via phone at 713.524.6706 or online at MainStreetTheater.com. Tickets are $18-$24. Children under the age of 3 (including sleeping babies) are not allowed in the theater. Details on Accommodation Performances (include audio description and sensory friendly performances) can be found online.
