Family-Friendly event series to debut in Shenandoah!

Sam Moon Group plans to start the new year with a roar by kicking off “Metropark Events on the Lawn,” Metropark Square’s monthly event series. Beginning in January, anyone can join the mixed-use development on the second Saturday of each month for a free, public event offering fun for the whole family!

Bringing excitement and energy to the development in January, the Houston Lion Kings will perform
traditional Chinese dragon and lion dances to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Families will watch in wonder as the colorful animals dance to the beating of drums, cymbals and gongs. After the performance, families can enjoy a bite to eat at one of the nearby restaurants or catch a movie at the new AMC Metropark Square 10. The Houston Lion Kings will perform from noon to 1 p.m. in the Metropark Square event lawn on Saturday, January 11, 2020.

Musical Theater classes & auditions for your child!

If your child is always singing and dancing around the house, or if she's just a straight up drama queen like one of my kiddos, musical theater might be in her future! National Youth Theater is one the best values around for fun, age-appropriate classes and shows for boys and girls ages 6 to 14. Their classes inspire imagination, exercise critical thinking, and builds confidence.

My youngest daughter participated in a one-week summer camp with NYT earlier this year, and I was surprised at how much all the kids learned in such a short amount of time.

Here's a highlight of what's coming up this spring semester, and DON'T miss the auditions for a chance for your child to shine on stage in a live performance!

What’s that howling sound? It’s probably a coyote! (Yes, The Woodlands has them!)

Lots of folks have been seeing (and hearing) coyotes lately! It’s nothing new; coyotes have been around The Woodlands since forever, but some newer residents are just now getting the memo, plus it seems that sightings have been on the rise in recent years. Reportedly, some neighbors in Creekside Park have even experienced having their little chihuahuas hauled off by these wolf-like canines (YIKES!), but this could possibly be an urban legend. (Let us hear from you if you have some facts about this.) Living among wild animals is part of the beauty of living in a heavily wooded, mostly secluded area like ours.

Santa Claus at Market Street - Begins Nov 22

Who brings lots of Christmas cheer for little boys and girls who have been good all year?  Santa Claus himself will be greeting children of all ages as Market Street continues the much-loved holiday tradition of photos with Santa.  Children can have their photos taken with jolly ol’ St. Nick beginning Friday, November 22 through Monday, December 24, 2019.

Santa Claus is coming to town to share the magic and wonder of the season in space 1140 across from Kendra Scott where young visitors may have their photos taken and, of course, whisper their wish list to St. Nick.

On December 1, bring your furry children for a photo!  Fluffy and Fido are welcome to visit from 4 – 7 p.m. for Pet Photos with Santa.

Pet Adoptions Every Saturday in The Woodlands!

Are you looking for a new pet to bring home for the holidays? The love of an adopted rescue pet changes everything! Join Operation Pets Alive’s volunteers every Saturday at Petco Kuykendahl in The Woodlands (next to Trader Joes) from noon-4pm. They'll be on hand with adoptable dogs and cats, puppies and kittens! Regular Adoption fees are $150 for dogs and $75 for cats, and includes spay/neuter, vaccinations and de-worming. Before heading out, we recommend reading For All Pets' online guide to adopting the perfect pet for your family.

Genealogy Research - A Wonderful FREE local resource for getting started!

Have you tested your DNA for genealogy? I know a few people who have, and they have been quite intrigued with the results. I've even heard of families who have traced their ancestors all the way to Africa and consequently recently visited the continent for the first time to meet distant relatives. What an adventure!

Many times, I've thought of purchasing one of the kits like Ancestry or 23AndMe, but what if I start digging and then uncover a long lost family secret that really bothers me? (Yes, I tend to be more paranoid than most folks!) And on the other hand, suppose I discover a great great uncle who has willed me all his riches? I know... slim chance.. but it's a fun idea that I conjure up often!
