Texas Children's Hospital is offering a free wellness program on Saturdays in March for qualified families, supported by Texas Department of State Health Services.
The purpose of the program is to promote wellness of children with special health care needs (defined as BMI>95%, elevated cholesterol and/or metabolic syndrome) and their families through facilitated play and integrated learning. Children must be between 6-16 years old.
Activities and programs include a variety of games, exercise activities, arts and crafts, group discussion and nutrition classes. Exercise specialists, physical/occupational therapists, child life specialists, dieticians and social workers from Texas Children's Hospital lead these activities.
