Did somebody say DONUTS? Make plans for Friday, Sept. 25 @ noon!

Do-nut miss this opportunity to try some amazing donuts! On Friday, September 25, 2020, the donut ambulance from Hurts Donut Co. will visit The Woodlands Children’s Museum to offer one-of-a-kind pastries to visitors. With only one location in the Houston area, the museum is excited to provide this experience to the community. Donuts will be available starting at 12:00pm until sold out.

“This is such a fun way to offer a family-friendly event,” stated Angela Colton, the museum’s Executive Director. “We had a wonderful turnout recently at our milkshake day and we thought the community would enjoy these delicious donuts, too. As a fundraiser, Hurts is generously donating a portion of their sales to the museum.

The Woodlands Family YMCA Kids Triathlon - It's a Virtual Race for 2020!

Out of an abundance of caution, this year’s annual YMCA Kids Triathlon has been transitioned into a Virtual Event for 2020. Children ages 5–15 are eligible to register and experience the fun and excitement of a triathlon. Designed for all levels, previous triathlon experience is not required. A Virtual event provides the participant all the fun swag of an in-person event, (Shirt, Bib, Finisher Medal, Results, Awards, etc.) but now they can choose the location, date and time to complete the event. No need to wake up early, worry about inclement weather, stress about finding a parking space, or spend time waiting in line!

Presented by Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands, the Kids Triathlon benefits the YMCA Annual Campaign, which ensures everyone, regardless of age, income or background has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive at the Y. Now more than ever, the community needs the YMCA. Now more than ever, the YMCA needs the community support so we can continue to meet the needs of our community. Proceeds will help us multiply our impact in 2020.

Healing with Love - Equine Therapy and a fun farm experience!

Did you know that horses have a strong emotional sense, and just spending time with them can be SO therapeutic? It’s true! We were curious about the positive feedback Healing with Love has been receiving about their horse therapy program, so we dropped in to pay them a visit. Sharing a home with Woodway Equestrian, Healing with Love is just a short drive south of The Woodlands off FM 2978 in Tomball.

On Saturday, August 22, from 11am – 3pm, the museum will host the “Shake You Up” milkshake truck, along with hot dog and nacho vendors, to welcome families back to the museum while helping children celebrate the end of summer and usher back into the new school year.

Creative Arts contests at the State Fair of Texas

Have you or someone in your family ever participated in a creative arts contest at the State Fair? My family has! When my daughter was 11, she sewed up a tote bag and submitted it in the youth sewing contest Although she didn’t win a prize, it was a fun thing to be a part of, and she received some valuable feedback from the judges.

For over 130 years, creative arts has been one of the most treasured traditions of the State Fair of Texas which is held in Dallas each year. As we reported in July, the fair is on hiatus for 2020 (another casualty of COVID-19), but we’re happy know that the Creative Arts tradition is moving forward. This year, the State Fair will offer over 900 arts & crafts contests, and the registration deadline has been extended to September 1, 2020. Whether you’re an adult or a child, a first-timer or a creative arts veteran, you just might take home a blue ribbon!
