Recycling in The Woodlands - Am I doing it right?

recycle in the woodlands
Sometimes it's hard to figure out this recycling thing. What's considered trash? How do I prep my recyclables? Should I be rinsing these cans first? And what do I do with all these pizza boxes from last night's party?

Well, recycling can be simple for you yet! The Woodlands Township has put together these straight-forward guidelines that show us all we need to know about what's acceptable to be recycled, and how to properly prepare our items.  For instance, did you know we shouldn't be bagging our recyclables? And plastic bags are not an acceptable recyclable? Did you know we should be emptying, rinsing, and keeping caps on our containers before recycling?

Have a first look at Pine Cove Park!

Pine Cove Park is open and you’ll love it!! We couldn’t find an address on this place, but I’ve included a map at the bottom of this post along with a few locating tips.

I’ve been anxiously waiting for over a year for the fence around this new park to come down, and finally – as of January 31, 2021, there’s no fence and the park it’s open! Harris County has made such wonderful use of this gem of a space located in the Augusta Pines area only a couple of minutes south of The Woodlands.

Special Finds - Free archery lessons and more!

Harris County Precinct 4 has dozens of fun programs for local residents, and oftentimes the events fill up quickly. In case you're wondering, Precinct 4 is one of four precincts in Harris County and has an area of over 390 square miles—3,800 acres of which is conveniently-located park land, and even includes the entirety of the Village of Creekside Park in The Woodlands.

Visit the Harris County Precinct 4 "Trails as Parks" website and you'll quickly see how many fun events are available for FREE - cart tours, fishing, archery, canoeing, gardening lessons, and so much more!

Escape to the Woods – YMCA Camp Cullen

It's been said that "You don't need therapy; you just need to go camping."

Our recent stay at YMCA Camp Cullen was relaxing and enjoyable, and I don't anticipate needing therapy anytime soon! Located just an hour and 15 minutes from The Woodlands in Trinity, TX, the campground is a haven for kicking back and taking it easy while enjoying the great outdoors.

For the current season, YMCA Camp Cullen has created a weekend camp experience for families entitled Escape to the Woods, meant to allow guests to enjoy isolation and maintain as much social distancing as they prefer.

The Good Vibe Farm - Add this to your fall to-do list!

October afternoons are for adventures, and that’s certainly what we enjoyed this past Monday afternoon when my family of 6 visited The Good Vibe Farm in Tomball. If you appreciate friendly farm animals, visiting this lovely family estate - located just 25 minutes from The Woodlands - is something you must experience this autumn! We received a leisurely, organized tour of the grounds by the owner, Joei, and one of her sweet kiddos, and they were the most gracious, pleasant hosts we could have wanted! They were eager to share their knowledge (my 6 year old asked lots of questions) and made us feel so welcome! Here's a quick video; then read on below for even more details and photos:

The Good Vibe Farm offers private tours, so we had the whole farm to ourselves (along with our hosts) for just over an hour, and every bit of our time was consumed doing something different and exciting to us. First, we got to enjoy the sweet female goats. They were friendly and clean, and they love to climb!
