Have you heard of Carolina Creek’s overnight summer camp? It isn’t a Vacation Bible School away from home. It’s a summer camp for kids, offering a wide range of exciting activities and events connecting fun and faith! The best news (in our opinion) is that it's located in Hunstville, TX, only a short drive from The Woodlands, so it's an easy-to-access summer camp for our readers, especially if you're feeling a bit uneasy about your child being away from home.
I lost count of the number of times my daughter said “Mommy can you sign me up, please?” We did the March 3 Tour Day for Camp Cho-Yeh, and let me tell you… if you are toying around with the idea of sending your child to an overnight summer camp, doing a tour like this (Camp Cho-Yeh's next Open House Tour is April 7) is very highly recommended! Meeting the friendly staff and getting a look at the grounds definitely eased my mind about summer camp overnight. And if the idea of camp all the way in Livingston, Texas seems a bit far-fetched, let me assure you that it’s only 1 hour from the Woodlands, a very comfortable drive!
Camp Cho-Yeh is an overnight Christian camp comprised of 700 acres of wholesome adventure! We toured the cabins, the aquatic center, the Cho-Dome, and the Trading Post, and we got a look at the giant swing, various other buildings and lodges throughout the campgrounds, obstacle mud courses, the lake, ropes courses, and more!
You won't see everything in these photos, including the water sports and the giant lake inflatables that your kiddos will be able to enjoy during camp, but hopefully you'll get an idea.
Pictured below is a look at one of the elementary-age cabins & bathrooms. Imagine your little one connecting with her peers, sharing songs and giggles, and maybe having the occasional pillow fight!
Here's the dining hall where hot meals are served daily!
Nature abounds at Camp Cho-Yeh, and at the heart of all the fun activities is a Christian-led camp where your child is growing in confidence while connecting with others and God's word. What more could you want?
The cabins and bathrooms were clean and spacious, and during our tour we were able to let off energy on the jumping pillow, shoot hoops on the basketball court, explore the amazing treehouse (including a double barrel slide that blew my mind), and we didn’t leave without getting a second helping of Cho-Cookies which were divine!
If you’re looking for an overnight summer camp opportunity for your child who’s entering 1st grade up through high school, be sure to give Camp Cho-Yeh a look! The next Open House Tour is scheduled for Sunday, April 7, 2024, and here’s the link to RSVP. It’s a free event!

At this time of year we’re usually posing the question, "What New Year's resolutions did you make?" It seems most responses we’re getting lately are along the lines of "I don't make New Year's resolutions." It's about time to put to bed what we consider to be the top five myths about New Year's resolutions and whether or not they are worth our time.
Myth #1: They do not work.
New Year's resolutions will work if you do. Resolution setting is goal setting. The truth is many people have a fear of setting goals because they have a fear of failure or they fear meeting face-to-face with their shortcomings. Both fears are unjustified. How do you plan to make positive changes if you do not set realistic goals and then act upon them? You must act to achieve.
Myth #2: There is no sense in making them.
I cried 2 times at Lone Star Lights. My family and I started the evening of our Huntsville-located holiday lights experience with the dinner theater add-on, and the play was bring-you-to-tears hilarious. I was not expecting it to be so delightful! Even more, the food was delicious, and the service was top-notch. We had a salad, baked potato soup, our choice from three premium entrées, and a decadent dessert. The experience included gourmet table settings and an attentive wait staff. If you end up making plans for Lone Star Lights, consider this add-on, especially if you have older kiddos!
There’s a wonderful little park in Spring that my family has adored for over a decade! Northcrest Park, located at Root Rd between Gosling and Northcrest, is packed with all the features that make a park memorable and special. Although not huge plus it's adjacent to a busy-ish road and a railroad track, the park is a sanctuary and true delight! I originally wrote this post in 2020, but I'm updating it Dec. 2023 so you can see new photos along with a couple of old ones (when my "baby" was younger), along with the park's new features.
The well-maintained grounds boast a large, lovely playground with updated equipment plus swings (we love swings!), but truthfully, I can count on one hand how many times we’ve visited the actual playground in the past 10 years. My kids love to play, but the oasis of fun on the other side of the parking lot from the playground is the true show-stopper. There are walking paths, bridges, a stocked lake (catch and release fishing is welcome!), a creek, pavilion, playful statues, water falls, a water fountain, picnic tables, and even a butterfly garden.

Often, we visit the park to feed the ducks and geese who are always friendly and happy to receive visitors. Within the past year, we noticed that a Girl Scout troop installed a FREE DUCK FOOD dispenser at the park, and it has been a God-send! It allows us to drop by on a whim to feed the ducks, even when we don't have food to bring them from home. I did notice on our latest visit that the dispenser was starting to get empty, so I hope to see it filled again soon. We actually plan to investigate whether or not we can help with the responsibility of keeping this dispenser full with the approprate type of food.

The bridges are fun to walk across, and there are also a couple of small hills that my girls love to walk up, plus there are usually plenty of sticks to gather from off the ground. One year, we even identified a pecan tree and were lucky enough to gather a couple of nuts from the ground.

Aside from feeding the birds, the park is great space to sit with oil pastels, colored pencils, or crayons to draw a pretty nature picture, which we’ve done several times.

Northcrest Park is located at 6012 Root Rd and is an Editor’s favorite! I hope you can find time to check it out! (Tip: Turn in to the parking lot where you see the Northampton MUD sign.)
