Make way for the chilly days! We’ve been waiting for months to pull out our dusty winter wear, and the days are finally getting cold. But while 40-degree weather calls for the fun things like hot cocoa and fuzzy socks, it also means sneezes and sniffles are coming around too. Here’s our list of five natural remedies to shoo those runny noses away:
This past December, after watching a mom and her twin toddler girls bundle up and take a walk outside in the cold rain (while one of the tots gleefully pushed along a doll stroller), I came to realize that The Great Outdoors is very all seasons! Hiding indoors for 3 months (or actually less, since our area doesn’t really get a true winter) is not the plan. Bikes can be ridden, walks can be taken, and fun can be had outdoors, in any weather, with just a bit of preparation. Here are some tips to help you and your family get outside, embrace the cold, and make the most of the winter season!
Surely you've enjoyed your share of summer picnics, but have you ever had one in the winter time? No? Oh, you're in for such a treat! It's very possible to spend a lovely, luxurious time outdoors in The Woodlands with blankets, warm foods, hot drinks, and games during the cold weather months. Here's how to pull it off.
Do you know who Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was? Do your kids know about this man who changed the world?
Your family can celebrate the man whose dream still lives on today by delving into one or more of the many books written about his life.
I don't care for the taste of blackeyed peas, but I make them on New Year's Day out of tradition. Eating them is supposed to bring prosperity in the new year, and who couldn't use some of that?! I encourage my kids to all take at least one bite, and though we're really not superstitious at all, it's a fun custom.
A few years ago, I happened upon a new recipe for making these good luck beans, and I've been pleased with the results. My family gives the dish 2 thumbs up (well, everyone except the 9-year-old). I think the secret to this simple crockpot recipe is the whole jalapenos. Make no mistake - the results are not spicy, but the subtle flavor of the jalapenos does a number on your taste buds! This recipe yields 8 servings. Enjoy!
Have you been wondering how you can be SMART when making your New Year's resolutions? Despite the fact that more New Year's resolutions are broken each year than any other goal, we still look forward to another opportunity to exercise discipline and have a fabulous year!
SMART is an acronym for several different stages of the goal-setting process. If you're planning to make a New Year's resolution, become familiar with what each letter stands for so that you can develop achievable resolutions. The following represents SMART goals, broken down into an easy to understand manner:
Why wait until midnight? Get the party started early, and keep the kids busy all day long! Here's how:
MORNING:
OPTION 1: Right after breakfast, kick off the morning fun by making a time capsule. This can be a simple cardboard box that will contain some of your child's favorite things of the past year (think small toys like stuffies, t-shirts, etc.). Also include a map / floorplan of your child's bedroom, showing where furniture and major decor items are currently arranged. Be sure to tuck in a photo of the family, seal the box tightly, and include opening instructions on the outside of the box (ex: "Do not open until January 1, 2034").

One of the many beneifts of living in The Woodlands area is all the wonderful places you can visit without having to drive too far. Here are some of our favorite Holiday Road Trips within a few hours away from home sweet home! Truthfully, my family has made "day trips" out of all 4 of these locations (it's possible), but you'll probably be more comfortable getting a hotel for the night. (pictured above - Gaylord Texasn)
Hey Woodlands mommies! As stores are contending with throngs of holiday shoppers trying to get the best Christmas deals, I just want to equip you with a few reminders to protect you and your families while you’re out and about.
One of the most important things to remember this season is to BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS. As moms, sometimes we arrive at a shopping center and are more concerned with finding a close parking space, or we’re talking with others on our cell phones, or we’re engaging with the kids, and we’re simply not paying enough attention to the details around us.
For this season and always, be sure to remember these 3 very important safety tips:
