Free Workshops for Kids at Home Depot

Your child can learn to build! On scheduled Saturdays each month, Home Depot offers FREE workshop for kids to work with Mom or Dad to build their own wooden masterpiece that they can complete in-store and then take home. Workshops are designed for kids ages 5-12, but all ages are welcome. I signed up my 11, 9, and 5 year olds for a recent project building a rocket ship pencil box, and it was a fun first experience. I was initially reluctant to bring the 11-year-old, thinking she'd be far too advanced, but I was wrong! Although most of the kids there seemed younger, I actually felt as though it was an appropriate, on-level independent project for her age, and even still I had to help her out a bit. And I had to help the two younger girls A LOT!

Give your kids a last-minute pseudo-vacation before school starts!

Remember my girls' weekend at Embassy Suites in Hughes Landing last year? Well, the same fun can apply to a family with kids who need a last-minute summer thrill before school starts (that's August 14 for most Woodlands-area public schools). Embassy Suites is situated right here in The Woodlands, and my family LOVES the hotel - it's clean, the suites are spacious, and the lobby is elegant enough for my taste but not pretentious.

Call or visit the Embassy Suites website for the best price, but a preliminary online search for this Friday night pulled up rates as low as $149. This price doesn't include tax, but let me tell you what it DOES include:

Sweet Thrills at Knott's Berry Farm in California

altI had the opportunity to sneak away with my husband for a kid-free trip to Los Angeles to celebrate the big 4-0. What better way to celebrate getting old than something that makes you feel young? We were thrilled to visit Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California, located little more than a 10 minute drive from Disneyland in Anaheim.

Thank goodness for Hugslie Land at Kroger in Sterling Ridge! They offer a free, supervised play room for children ages 2-8 daily so that you can finally enjoy a child-free shopping experience (or just rest and have enjoy Starbucks with WiFi!).
