Township Arbor Day event gives free tree seedlings to residents - January 27, 2024

The Woodlands’ annual Arbor Day Tree Giveaway is set for Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 9 a.m. to noon at Rob Fleming Park. The Woodlands celebrates its 48th year of giving away seedlings to residents, making it one of the longest-standing community traditions. 

Since 1977, more than 1.5 million seedlings have been distributed. This year’s event is produced by The Woodlands Township Environmental Services Department with support from Howard Hughes and Waste Management.

The New Year is off to a festive start at north Houston’s City Place, where visitors can laissez les bons temps rouler during an annual Fat Tuesday celebration, take advantage of ongoing health and wellness programming, give kids a leg up on the competition and show that special someone how much they’re loved with a special meal, romantic stay or handcrafted Valentine’s Day card. Programming takes place on and around the community’s central Plaza at 1250 Lake Plaza Drive – Spring, TX 77389.

The Woodlands Children’s Museum is excited to announce a new partnership with The John Cooper School, providing the community with an imaginative new exhibit designed to ignite curiosity and inspire creative play, problem-solving, and engagement for families and children.

The John Cooper School’s Dream and Build Exhibit features a magnificent 15-foot sculpted dragon, walk-through castle towers, interactive building blocks, and an open play concept that allows young minds to explore the realms of architecture, engineering, design, and critical thinking.

Reach your fitness goals while having fun with friends and family by participating in The Woodlands Township’s Signature Races in 2024. Enjoy the thrill of competition from triathlon to trail running with the Muddy Trails 5K, Run and Done 3.1, The Woodlands Triathlon, Memorial Hermann 10 for Texas or the Glow and Go 5K. All running events are sanctioned by USA Track & Field (USATF), and The Woodlands Triathlon is a USA Triathlon (USAT) sanctioned event. Registration for all races is open now. At this time of year we’re usually posing the question, "What New Year's resolutions did you make?" It seems most responses we’re getting lately are along the lines of "I don't make New Year's resolutions." It's about time to put to bed what we consider to be the top five myths about New Year's resolutions and whether or not they are worth our time.

Myth #1: They do not work.

New Year's resolutions will work if you do. Resolution setting is goal setting. The truth is many people have a fear of setting goals because they have a fear of failure or they fear meeting face-to-face with their shortcomings. Both fears are unjustified. How do you plan to make positive changes if you do not set realistic goals and then act upon them? You must act to achieve.

Myth #2: There is no sense in making them.
