10 Things to Do Before Your College Kid Heads Back to Campus

10thingstodo
Can you believe it? Winter break has absolutely flown by. One minute we were unwrapping presents and enjoying holiday chaos, and now here we are—already saying goodbye to our oldest child again.

Do you have a college kiddo heading back to campus soon too? If so, I hope you’re able to make the most of the last moments together. Whether it's sharing a meal, running errands, or having meaningful conversations, these final days offer the perfect opportunity to create lasting memories and ensure your child is fully prepared for the next semester.

To help you make the most of this precious time, here are 10 thoughtful and practical things you can do before they head back to school.

  1. Prepare a warm, delicious "last supper" (dessert included!) and enjoy it with family by candlelight.

  2. Treat the family to a favorite sweet snack (boba tea, anyone?), and don't forget to bring along younger siblings.

  3. Enjoy a cozy movie night to unwind and spend quality time together.

  4. Go shopping for any essentials they might need—think toiletries, notebooks, a phone charger, and maybe some new shoes. For my kiddo, we'll make one last crawl at The Woodlands Mall!

  5. Treat them to a haircut or styling session before they head out.

  6. Ensure they pack a winter coat or jacket if they'll be in a colder climate.

  7. Sit down and talk about their goals and expectations for 2025.

  8. Arrange a farewell visit with the grandparents for some extra love and bonding.

  9. If they're driving back to school, check their car for any necessary repairs or maintenance.

  10. Remind them how much you love them and how much they'll be missed.
