Entertainment is in full swing at North Houston’s dynamic business and lifestyle hub City Place in May with an exciting lineup of family-friendly activities including Texas Repertory Theatre Co.’s Great American Songbook performances, Water Lantern Festival, Soccer Shots Fun Day, Your Neighborhood Famers Market, live music and more. The fun all takes place on and around the community’s central Plaza at 1250 Lake Plaza Drive – Spring, TX 77389.

Special Programming

In a two-night, outdoor musical celebration on the City Place Park waterfront, acclaimed Texas Repertory Theatre Co. presents a Great American Songbook: The Golden Years on May 12 and 13 from 7:30 to 9:30 pm (rain dates May 19 and 20). The lively theater acts, paired with a live jazz band, will pay homage to some music’s greatest legends, including Johnny Mercer, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin. Free to attend with a cash bar available onsite. Blankets and low-profile camping/beach chairs are welcome, and the site’s terraced terrain provides a picturesque and comfortable environment to enjoy the show.

The Water Lantern Festival offers a stunning launch to summer over Memorial Day Weekend. Taking place May 27 from 5:30 to 9:30 pm, the memorable evening includes food trucks, live music and the opportunity for guests to design and send off their LED candle-lit lanterns into the City Place’s main pond, where they will float among hundreds of others in this dazzling display. Soccer Shots is kicking off a complimentary Fun Day in City Place Plaza on May 31 with sessions that focus on building skills and developing character via this best-in-class offering. The classes are available for children ages 2-3 from 4:30 - 5:00 pm,  ages 3-5 from 5:00-5:30 pm, and ages 6-8 from 5:40 – 6:25pm.  Family Movie Night takes brings the big screen to The Plaza on May 19 at 8:30 pm for a family-friendly film alfresco.

Reoccurring Programming

Sweet melodies fill up City Place Plaza during Sunday Sounds, a relaxing, live music showcase on May 14 and 28 from 2-4 pm, while Piano on the Plaza brings a piano performance and spotlight singer May 12 at 6:30pm.

The family fun continues on May 11, when Children’s Storytime showcases a 45-minute character-led experience that takes kids on an imaginative adventure.

Your Neighborhood Farmers Market brightens The Plaza on May 17 from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm with fresh, seasonal produce from local farms, grass-fed meats, pasture-raised eggs, artisan cheeses, baked goods, pressed juices, plants, natural pet treats and other artisanal goods.

Guests can learn about creative approaches to photographing architecture and other manmade landscapes utilizing City Place as the backdrop during this month’s complimentary Houston Center of Photography workshop May 27 at 10 am. Fitness is back in full force every Saturday – May 6, 13, 20 and 27 – at 8:30 am with Camp Gladiator’s transforming cardio and strength-training classes, followed by Yoga at the Plaza at 10 am. Moms can bring along their toddlers for a stroller incorporated workout during Fit4Mom Stroller Barre every Wednesday – May 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31 – at 9:30 am. Both Fit4Mom and Camp Gladiator offer a complimentary first class with membership options following, while yoga is always complimentary.
