Do these fun things on Go Texan Day (Friday, Feb. 28)

gotexasn fun
Go Texan Day is a fun celebration of Texas culture, and it’s the perfect opportunity to dress up in your best cowboy or cowgirl gear and enjoy some family-friendly activities. From rodeo fun to eating barbeque, here are a few ideas to make the day memorable for you and your little ones!

Dress the Part: Cowboy and Cowgirl attire

To celebrate Go Texan Day, let your kids don some classic Western attire that’s comfortable and fun! Your child’s school might even encourage dressing up on this day. Think blue jeans, boots, and a plaid shirt or tee paired with a colorful bandana. A cowboy or cowgirl hat will seal the deal, for sure!

Editor's Tip: For budget-friendly options, head to Kid to Kid on Woodlands Parkway and check out their gently used western wear for kids. (Shopping resale is a fantastic way to save money, and you’re doing your part for the environment by giving clothes a second life.)

Take your preschooler for rodeo-themed crafts at Chick-fil-A
Kid’s Time at Chick-fil-A Alden Bridge happens to correspond with Go Texan Day. The theme is Rodeo Songs and Puffy Cactus Painting, so drop in and enjoy a craft with your little one! Details here.

Celebrate Go Texan Day at the Central Library
Join the children's department 11am – 3pm  for some rodeo themed crafts and activities at the Central Library in Conroe. Details here.

Visit Grand Central Park for a Go Texan Day Celebration
Kick off rodeo season in style at the beautiful Lake House at Grand Central Park in Conroe. You’ll get a personalized bandana to show off your Texas spirit, and you can strike a pose in front of a rodeo-themed backdrop. Details here.

Attend the Rodeo Roundup in Houston
It's the official kickoff to RODEO Houston! Enjoy free chopped barbecue sandwiches, dance to live music, and take a photo atop a Texas Longhorn steer in Downtown Houston. Details here.

Watch the Trail Riders
If you miss the trail riders making their way from Montgomery County down south (did you see the Tomball reception event we posted about?), Go Texan Day is another opportunity to catch them as they arrive at Memorial Park. All 11 trail rider groups (coming from different directions) meet along the historic trail route in Memorial Park to camp and wait for every rider to arrive. Then, the groups ride together in one processional parade to the rodeo fairgrounds. Details here.

Jam out to Country and Western music
Country music is at the heart of Go Texan Day! Our Editors are on the hunt for any Woodlands-area concerts, performances, and jam sessions throughout the day, but for now, you should make plans to listen to lively country tunes on your own devices. Pull up YouTube and learn some fun new dances with the kids (or show them some Texas two-step moves).

Indulge in Some Delicious Barbecue
You don’t need to be asked twice! Go Texan Day is the perfect excuse to dig into some mouth-watering Texas BBQ. Our top local picks are Corkscrew BBQ in Spring (just be sure to order online early, as they sell out fast!) and Pit Master Bar-B-Que on Rayford Rd. You won’t be disappointed with either spot!

Make homemade chili
Get the kids involved in making a pot of chili! Go Texan Day and rodeo season always include chili cook-offs, so why not have some fun finding the perfect recipe to create your own flavorful batch? It’s a great way to bond and enjoy a delicious, Texas-style dish together.
