Boho Bags on "Make Something Mondays"

In the summetime, a Creative Alliteration Schedule keeps us on track and adds variety to our daily schedules. Here's a link to the alliteration schedule I like to use.

We're quite a few days into summer break now, and we started our week by pulling out the sewing machine. We finished 1 of the 4 bags we set out to create for "Make Something Monday" this week. (I'm hoping my other girls will be ready to make theirs by the weekend. They weren't quite feeling up to it on Monday.)  This project was supposed to be a Boho Beach Bag, but because of the fabrics my daughter chose (one was flannel), it looks like more of a cozy overnight bag.

Approximately 1 yard of fabric was used for the outside of the bag and handles, and another 1 yard for the lining. We used leftover fabrics that I had from previous sewing projects, but this time of year, you can get a pretty yard of fabric on sale at Joann or Hobby Lobby or even some Walmart stores for just a few dollars each. Your child might be more enthusiastic about bag-making if he/she can choose their own fabrics!

Here's a link to the instructions I used for this Boho Beach Bag. I've also embedded the YouTube video below:

Unfortunately, I could not find the instructions in written form. I prefer to read instructions and look at photos, but the video is all I could find online. So we watched and paused the video, rewinding as needed, as we went along. The bag is simple to make and comes together pretty quickly.

You can't tell from the photo because the side strings are drawn, but the interior of this bag is huge! She can fit several beach towels, a picnic blanket, and a change of clothes and shoes in it! It's easy to carry. And of course, the bag itself can just be thrown into the washing machine after a day out!
