Rockin' The Hits With The KIDZ BOP Kids!

alt Strap on your unicorn ears or big-as-Texas bow, throw on your custom printed shirt and stuff that purse full of snacks, because, mama - you're going to KIDZ BOP!

KIDZ BOP Live 2018 performed Sunday, September 23 at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and featured a diverse cast of KIDZ BOP Kids: Julianna, Isaiah, Freddy and Liv. Billed as the ultimate family concert experience "sung by kids for kids," the quartet sang and danced their hearts through over 20 of today's biggest hit songs. We listen to KIDZ BOP in the car and have never watched their videos before, so my son was really surprised that kids actually do sing these songs!

If you're not familiar with how KIDZ BOP spins the hits, for Bruno Mars' "That's What I Like," the lyric "strawberry champagne on ice" becomes "strawberry milkshakes so nice." Tweaks like this keep the music clean yet catchy enough for the entire family to enjoy. The Woodlands' set included popular hits from Taylor Swift, Flo-Rida, Demi Levato, Alessia Cara, Camila Cabello, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, DNCE, Imagine Dragons, Justin Beiber and Justin Timberlake, just to scratch the surface. They also featured a few mash-ups across the 75 minute performance (plus a brief intermission).

The show soared with moments that encouraged audience interaction, like throwing out t-shirts, bouncing around giant beach balls and having kids dance in the aisles. A '90s Parent Dance Off with props had the crowd cheering and laughing. I loved scanning the audience to see so many families having a blast, many with kids seeing their first big live event. Best friends were screaming along with the lyrics, dancing in their seats, clapping along and having the time of their lives. My son really did not perk up until "Uptown Funk" but I could tell he was just a bit shy to let loose and rock out to a song he really liked with several thousand strangers that also rock out to that same jam.

I enjoyed seeing the KIDZ BOP Kids perform a few songs acapella and showing off their artistic chops playing keyboard and guitar. The team also really "wowed" with solid dance moves. Note to self: apparently you can check out an online dance lesson from the Kids prior to the show! I cannot wait to embarrass my son and his friends in 2019!
