Everyone knows to put marshmallows in hot chocolate, but have you tried any of these other unique add-ons?
- Peppermint stick / candy cane. Add a little more sweetness to your tasty holiday drink by throwing in a peppermint stick. Not to mention, it’s a perfect way to make sure those candy cane tree decorations go to good use. For an extra fun (and potentially sticky) addition, get a pack of candy cane spoons from Walmart.
- Chocolate chips. Calling all my chocolate lovers! If you find your hot cocoa isn’t “cocoa-y” enough, try pouring in a handful of chocolate chips to satisfy those tastebuds.
- Caramel syrup. If caramel makes your heart sing, squeezing a few spoonfuls of thick gooey syrup into your holiday drink might elevate your experience times ten!
- Sprinkles. Sprinkle bells, sprinkle bells, sprinkle all the way! These colorful treat toppers aren’t just for cookies and cupcakes. Sprinkles are a fun and flavorful way to jazz up your hot cocoa, and they tend to be especially pleasing for the kiddos.
- Whipped cream. If you haven’t tried putting whipped cream on your hot chocolate, you are missing out! Aside from making a pretty presentation, the cream helps to cool down the cocoa, so no burned tongues this year! You can even top it with peppermint crumbles or powdered cinnamon.
- Cinnamon stick. Here’s where the real spice comes in! Pop a cinnamon stick into your chocolate-y beverage to add a delicious edge to your cocoa.
- Mint sprig. If you want that minty zing without going full peppermint, garnish your hot chocolate with a fresh sprig of mint.
- Corn syrup and peppermint rim. One way to step up your hot cocoa is simply to turn it into eye candy. Coat the rim of your mug with corn syrup then dip it in peppermint crumbles for a fancy-schmancy cup of chocolate love.
- Hot cocoa balls. While it’s exciting to personalize your own holiday drinks, if you desire the extravagance without the effort, try using a hot cocoa ball! These yummy balls are often filled with marshmallows, chocolate chips, and other delicious things.
