Outdoor Toys and Activities for Boys Ages 10 & Below (Reduce the screentime!)

bug explorers
Summertime is the ideal time for outdoor playtime in The Woodlands! The days are longer and there's no school, so the fun can begin early in the day and stretch to the later hours of the evening. Take advantage of this special season by making sure your son has access to plenty of toys and activities to help prolong his time spent playing in the outdoors. Yep, I know... our summer months are SUPER HOT. But kids need to run around, sweat, get dirty, and get their Vitamin D. (Just be sure to supervise their playtime and keep them well hydrated.)

Books We Absolutely LOVE - Pre-Kindergarten

books we love woodlandsmommy prek
Reading with your pre-kindergarten child is rewarding and fun! What a great way to prepare for kindergarten and a lifetime of reading!  Experts say that kids who hear a lot of language do better in school. Of course, you should talk to your child throughout the day, sing songs, play rhyming games, and more. But also, READ!! Reading is one of the best ways to hear language.

Boho Bags on "Make Something Mondays"

In the summetime, a Creative Alliteration Schedule keeps us on track and adds variety to our daily schedules. Here's a link to the alliteration schedule I like to use.

We're quite a few days into summer break now, and we started our week by pulling out the sewing machine. We finished 1 of the 4 bags we set out to create for "Make Something Monday" this week. (I'm hoping my other girls will be ready to make theirs by the weekend. They weren't quite feeling up to it on Monday.)  This project was supposed to be a Boho Beach Bag, but because of the fabrics my daughter chose (one was flannel), it looks like more of a cozy overnight bag.

KiwiCo Crates - Excitement, Fun, and Learning, all-in-one!

kiwibox.jpg
For so many years, I've wanted to try out a KiwiCo Crate, and I finally did it! It was a hit with my 9-year-old daughter, and I am sorry that it took us SO LONG to delve into the world of these fun crate activities! We made probiotic buddy stuffies, homemade goo, and delicious kofta, and we learned a lot about how bacteria works plus played word games and more. Still on our to-do-list from our crate is the making of homemade yogurt and frozen yogurt, which we plan to do the first week of summer break.

Minimalist Ideas for special & fun Spring Break 2024

simple spring break
You don’t have to engage in ALL the crazy-cool happenings going on around town to have a wonderful, meaningful time with your family this season. Perhaps you prefer a more laid-back approach. Maybe you don’t have a partner to help you corral a couple of rowdy kids through a sea of other families. You could be low on cash, low on energy, or both. Or even more, maybe your idea of fun is just a slower paced, quieter time connecting with your child.
