You don’t have to travel far to have a fabulous time! Keep reading for some fresh ideas for your family's 2025 Spring Break Extravaganza!
1. Dinosaur Discoveries and Butterfly Wonders at HMNS
Embark on a journey of awe-inspiring holograms and prehistoric wonders at the Houston Museum of Natural Science! Experience an immersive 3D theater adventure, no glasses required. In Dinosaur Discoveries, you'll travel back in time, unraveling mysteries and witnessing dinosaurs come to life right before your eyes!
While you're at the museum, the Cockrell Butterfly Center is a great spot to enjoy beautiful butterflies (and let them land on you), and you can use the WoodlandsMommy.com Corporate Discount for discounted admission.
2. Theatrical performances for all ages - Main Street Theater and The Hobby Center
The Wind in the Willows is the classic tale that follows the adventures of four friends as they navigate the English countryside and learn valuable lessons about friendship and loyalty. This show, recommended for Kindergarten and older, is playing at Main Street Theater March 6 - April 5.
Another family-friendly option at Main Street Theater during Spring Break is Elephant & Piggie's "We Are in a Play," presented January 13 - May 23, 2025 through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). An elephant named Gerald and a pig named Piggie are best, best, “bestus” friends. The show is a musical experience ripped from the pages of Mo Willems’ beloved award-winning, best-selling children’s books, and is recommended for Pre-Kindergarten and older.
Prefer something for the older kids or just the adults? Broadway's HAMILTON, the revolutionary story of passion, unstoppable ambition, and the dawn of a new nation, is playing at Houston's Hobby Center March 4-23, 2025. Based on Ron Chernow’s acclaimed biography and set to a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and Broadway, HAMILTON has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education.
3. Create memories with a family sleepover with the Grands
Family time makes the best memories for Spring Break! My kids always looked forward to sleepovers at Grandma’s house during the summer, especially when their cousins joined in. If you’ve got a big family, why not call up Grandma or Grandpa and see if they’d be up for hosting a fun sleepover for you and the kids? Grab a portable ping-pong or air hockey table, pick up some lawn games, stock up on snacks, and queue up a few family-friendly movies. For a sweet treat, serve hot chocolate or popsicles—depending on the weather! Or, just let the grandparents take the reins and decide what the night’s adventure will be.
4. Bust a move with active fun at a local rink
Spring Break is almost here, so why not get active and have some fun on wheels? Head over to Skate Champions Rollerworld in Spring, TX (pictured above), my go-to spot for family fun. It’s spacious, clean, and full of energy! Or take a short drive in the opposite direction to Rainbow Roller Rink at 1695 N. Loop 336 East in Conroe for a classic roller skating experience. And if you haven’t checked out the new spot in town, Ultimate Arena in Magnolia (pictured below), now's the time. It’s got a roller rink, a paintball arena, and an arcade for even more excitement.
Each rink also has a variety of arcade games and tasty food concessions, making it easy to spend a couple of hours skating, snacking, and having fun with the family!
Roller skating not your thing? The ice rink in Memorial City Mall is a bit of a drive but can be totally worth it, especially if you hang around for a mall crawl afterwards. Be sure to check their website for open hours, since the rink is not open to the public every day. Aerodrome Ice Skating Complex is closer to The Woodlands area (but still a good drive), and it's another favorite! Finally, roller skating outside under the stars at Discovery Green Park in Downtown Houston is back and will include movie nights, school spirit nights, and Cheap Nights at the Rink. And yes, you read that right... an OUTDOOR roller rink! It's a whole barrel of fun!
5. Get your hands dirty and plant seedlings for a summer garden
Are you the outdoorsy type? I’m not, haha! But give me a garden that’s also a snack haven, and I’m totally in. Starting an herb, fruit, or veggie garden is a fun way to get the whole family outside during Spring Break (and beyond) while learning some handy life skills.
We’ve tried a few raised garden beds in the past (using both seeds and seedlings), and most times they have turned out full of delicious, homegrown goodness! If you’ve never planted a garden from scratch, I highly recommend giving it a go. It's super rewarding and fun for the kids. Start with easy-to-grow veggies like tomatoes, herbs like mint and basil, or add a pop of color with marigolds.
You might even want to get your hands on this mini greenhouse (pictured above) with adjustable dome that we found on Amazon. It's a great tray for starting seeds, and it's super affordable! It's also made of plastic, so you can reuse it over and over again.
6. Staycation Vibes - Book a poolside retreat
Just because you’re on staycation doesn’t mean hotels are out of the question! We’ve got some lovely places to retreat in our area -- and many with heated swimming pools! Ironically, The Woodlands has had a history of chilly Spring Breaks, but don’t let the cold stop you from enjoying swim time. Heated pools are good for both warm and cold weather. Stay in familiar territory with an overnight stay at The Woodlands Resort or Embassy Suites in Hughes Landing, or take a longer drive to Margaritaville Lake Resort on Lake Conroe. (Click here to see the Margaritaville review I wrote a while back.)
7. Hike or Bike in The Woodlands
Ready to get active this Spring Break? If you’ve got little ones with lots of energy, a walk or bike ride along one of the beautiful nature trails in our area is an easy and fun way to burn off some steam, soak up the sun, and sneak in some exercise. I’ve said it before, but the George Mitchell Nature Preserve and the Spring Creek Nature Trail are perfect for family adventures. Pack a scavenger hunt list, some trail mix, and plenty of water to stay hydrated.
8. Movie night with all the indulgences
A huge screen, booming speakers, arcade games… Go big for Spring Break with an ultimate trip to the theater. Order the kids whatever they want: popcorn! nachos! soda! candy! And let them live it up this once. We love the magical movie land of Regal in Benders Landing – with colorful neon lights, high ceilings, VIP theaters, a coffee bar, and other nearby attractions. Reel Luxury Cinemas is Market Street's luxurious theater with elevated in-theater dining options. And Cinepolis in The Woodlands Creekside offers full in-theater waiter service, a full bar, and discounted tickets on Tuesdays.
Paddington in Peru hits theaters on February 14, 2025. Disney's live action Snow White won't hit theaters until March 21, 2025, which means Spring Break might be over for most local districts, but you can add the film to your list for a future weekend.
9. Be Mesmerized at Cirque du Soleil's ECHO at Sam Houston Race Park
As described on Cirque du Soleil’s website, ECHO is inspired by youth’s optimism, the power of invention, and the value of empathy. You'll be captivated with joyful characters, inspiring music, breathtaking lighting and projections, and jaw-dropping acrobatic feats. This family-friendly show is a WoodlandsMommy.com Editor's Pick and is playing at Sam Houston Race Park through March 23, 2025.
10. Oh sweet Strawberries! Pick them fresh!
Family Farms in Plantersville has pick-your-own strawberries beginning the first week of March. Fishing and paddleboats are also available (reserve in advance). Drive a bit further, and visit Froberg's Farm located in Alvin. Froberg's strawberry-picking season began in February, and their "Strawberry Festival" is March 1-31and includes family fun, great food, and strawberry picking (when available). This farm is just an hour away, so it totally counts as a staycation!
11. Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo
Ready to head down to Houston? The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo is the biggest event of the year! Located at NRG Stadium from March 4 - March 23, Rodeo Houston makes for a perfect Spring Break staycation activity. See baby animals and cow-milking demonstrations, shop for a cowgirl hat, ride the Ferris Wheel and other carnival rides, chow down on BBQ and candied apples, watch cattle roping and live musical entertainment, and more!

Newer to the scene, Oiler Studio is your neighborhood creative bar with a twist. Offering daytime hours for all ages (after 6pm is adults only), you'll find a myriad of self-led creative activities to pursue such as painting, DIY lip balm, and candle making.
13. Enjoy active playtime for all ages in your crew
Girls (and boys) just wanna have fun! It's not really Spring Break until you've had an opportunity to enjoy an amusement park, and Conroe's Incredible Pizza Company (pictured above) tops the list with an area for toddler playtime, plus ALL THE THINGS you want in a family outing - big fun for all ages with games, rides, and attractions, plus a pizza / salad / snacks / desserts buffet and big-screen movies! They also offer daily specials, so be sure to check their website. Cheeky Monkeys opened last year, and it's a colorful MUST-STOP for little ones up to 8-years old. Kids spend hours in the interactive softplay, monkey clubhouse, blocks station, organized activities, and arts & crafts station.
The Woodlands Children's Museum is a WoodlandsMommy.com Editor's Picks, perfect for little ones and with a chock-full schedule of activities for Spring Break, it's a MUST VISIT. Altitude Trampoline Park in Spring is a great value for trampoline fun, at the openness of the venue makes it easier to keep an eye on the kids. Urban Air Adventure Park serves up all the thrills including a zipline, and The Woodlands location even offers bumper cars. Slick City (new location in Willowbrook) features exhilarating indoor slides and air courts that will keep you moving. And don't forget about places like Main Event which offers bowling, virtual reality, and laser tag, and Dave & Buster's that offers an epic arcade and good eats!
And have you heard of Once Upon a Cowboy (pictured above)? Located in Tomball, it's a unique immersive, interactive theme park adventure filled with so much fun for little ones including dinosaur rides, dinosaur scooters, a sandbox experience, dinosaur fossil finds, Ballocity ball arena, virtual reality, axe throwing, train rides, laser tag, and much more!
14. Jam out at a live free outdoor music concert
It's the time of year for outdoor music concerts in The Woodlands. Concert in the Park at Northshore Park and Waterway Nights in Waterway Square will both have concerts during Spring Break this year. All you'll need to do is bring your coolers, blanket or lawn chairs, pack a picnic dinner or snacks, and get ready to relax and enjoy! Please note that on March 16 (the day before Conroe ISD students return to school), Concert in the Park will feature a kickoff to Springtime, and the Township staff will be handing out spring-themed giveaways for kids.
15. Let outdoor adventures steal the show
Spring Break calls for true outdoor adventures and feats of skill, and few thing are better than Texas Treeventures, an exhilarating aerial adventure course situated within the Recreation Center at Rob Fleming Park. Minimum age for climbing is 6 years old. You can even rent a treehouse or have a birthday party here! Or head to the Riva Row Boat House for your chance to explore The Woodlands Waterway in a kayak or swan boat. Adventure Days at Big Rivers Waterpark runs March 8-30, 2025 and will feature favorite dry and fairground attractions such as axe-throwing, archery, fishing, fairground rides, and more. A simple romp at The Woodlands spraygrounds can be a delightful treat for the kids with very little prep time for mom. The spraygrounds season begins March 1. Please note, in addition to the 6 village spraygrounds listed at the previous link, there are also spraygrounds in Market Street and in The Woodlands Waterway Square.
