Talk to your toddler about
Christmas time drawing near.
Make mention of the decorations
throughout the neighborhoods and
in the stores, and help him name
the different icons and symbols -
Santa Claus, wreath, Christmas
tree, holly, bells, reindeer, etc.

"Merry Christmas"
Not that your toddler should be
reading yet, but make a fun game
out of finding the words "Merry
Christmas" wherever you go.
These words are written all around
town during the holiday season -
on storefronts, billboards,
packages, and more. Before you
know it, he'll be able to recognize
the look of the words without your
help. Just for fun, use a different
"funny" voice each time you say the
words. Your tot will be happy to
play along.

The Hunt for Santa
Pull out you camera for this one,
and go on a Santa Claus hunt with
your child. Take pictures of all the
Santas you can find. Start in your
own home (decorations, books),
walk through your neighborhood,
then make a final trip to the
shopping center. Your toddler will
enjoy finding Santa Claus virtually
everywhere, and you can come
home, download the photos, and
view them together on the
computer.

Gift-Giving
Allow your toddler to help pick out
a toy or book from his own
collection that he'd like to pass on
to a friend (or to a stranger). Make
sure he understands that the toy
will no longer be his to play with
and that it's time for another little
boy or girl to enjoy it. Recruit your
toddler's help wiping down the toy
with soap and water, wrapping it
with paper, and finally presenting it
as a gift to someone.
