Paper Bird
Give your child two circles cut out
of light blue construction paper.
One circle needs to be a little
smaller than the other one. Help
him  glue these circles on dark
blue construction paper, using the
large circle as the body and the
smaller circle as the head. Finally,
decorate the bird with feathers and
crayons/markers.

Feather Painting
Let your child paint on construction
paper using a feather instead of a
paintbrush.

Birds
Talk to your child about birds.
Mention that birds have wings,
feathers, and a beak, and that
most birds fly in the air. Help your
child distinguish at least two types
of bird. (Suggestions: owl, parrot,
peacock, flamingo)

How Many Birds
Enjoy an early morning stroll
outside in the yard or at a park and
try to find 5 to 10 birds with your
toddler.

Paper Plate Owl
Make this Owl Paper Plate craft.

Two Little Blackbirds
Two little blackbirds sitting on a hill,
(close fists, extend index fingers)
One named Jack, one named Jill
(talk to one finger; talk to other finger)
Fly away Jack. Fly away Jill.
(toss index fingers over shoulder
separately)
Come back, Jack. Come back, Jill.
(bring back hands separately with
index fingers extended)

Birds Fly High
(Tune:  'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star')
Birds fly high and bees fly low,
Caterpillars crawl and river flow,
Cats meow and cows go 'moo'.
Puppies bark and babies 'coo'.
So many things to see and hear,
I use my eyes and I use my ears.

Time to Rise
A birdie with a yellow bill
Hopped upon my windowsill,
Cocked his shining eye and said:
"Ain't you 'shamed, you sleepyhead!"

Robin Red Breast
Little Robin Readbreast
Sat upon a rail.
Niddle, naddle went his head;
Wiggle, waggle went his tail.

Five Little Birdies
(Start with five fingers on one hand up
in the air. As each verse is said use
the other hand to bend down each
finger)
Five little birdies, flying around our door,
The blue one flew away and then there
were four.
Four little birdies sitting in a tree,
The yellow one flew away and then
there were three.
The little birdies didn't know what to do,
So the red one flew away, and then
there were two.
Two little birdies sitting in the sun,
The Brown one flew away, and there
was one.
The little green birdie felt so all alone,
He/she flew away and then there was
none.
Later on that very day,
five little birdies came back to play.

Wise Old Owl
Wise old owl
in the tree,
Whoo-oo are you looking at?
(Wink eye.)
Is it me?
