Summer
Talk to your toddler about summer time.
Explain that the weather gets hot and
the sun shines very brightly. Introduce
your child to summer attire -
sunglasses, sun hats, sun dresses,
sandals, and shorts. "These clothes
help us stay cool on the hot summer
days."

Ice Is Nice
Let your toddler play with ice in a bowl
or at the sink. Talk about how cold the
ice is, and run water on the ice to
watch it melt. For a fun experiment, let
your child place an ice cube outside in
a cup,  and keep checking on the ice
cube as it gets smaller and smaller until
ultimately it is completely melted.

Go Fishing
Make your fishing rods by using a long
piece of string or yarn and tie a magnet
on the end of it. Make paper fish
shapes in various colors and each
should have a letter of the alphabet
written on it. Cover them with contact
paper. Add a paper clip for its mouth
either before of after you put contact
paper on it. To play, have your child
kneel backwards on a chair and go
fishing.

Paper Plate Sun
Materials:  paper plate(large), yellow
paint, glue, yellow strips of paper(rays
of sun)
Directions:  Paint entire paper plate
yellow. When somewhat dry glue the
yellow strips around the plate-sticking
outward.

Make this Ice Cream paper craft.

Have a Picnic
Have a good old fashioned picnic -
indoors or out. If indoors, open the
curtains and blinds and let the sunlight
in. Use a blanket to sit on, and have
water squirt toys on hand for fun.
Good picnic foods - sandwiches,
watermelon, and chicken salad.

The Sun
The sun makes the outside a warm place to
play
(arms above head in circle)
It makes the flowers grow each day
(holding up hands wiggling fingers)
The sun hides its face during the night
(cover face with hands)
But during the daytime it shines - oh so bright
(arms above head in circle)

Summer Time
These are my sun glasses.
(circle eyes with fingers)
This is my great sun hat.
(Hands over head)
This is the way I fold my hands
(Fold hands)
And rest them, just like that.
(Place hands into lap)
Pack the paper plates and napkins.
(Pretend to pack)
Don't forget the food and drink:
(Shake head no)
Hot dogs, potato salad, cake, and lemonade
pink.
It's fun to go on a picnic.
I simply cannot wait
To eat and play, have fun all day,

You Are My Sunshine
You are my sunshine,
My only sunshine,
You make me happy
When skies are gray
You’ll never know dear
How much I love you
Please don’t take my sunshine away.

It is Summer
(sung to "If You're Happy And You Know It")
It is summer
and it's time to take a swim!
It is summer
and it's time to take a swim!
It is summer
that's the season!
We don't need
a better reason!
It is summer
and it's time to take a swim!

Apples
Apples here (point to yourself)
Apples there (point away)
Apples are growing everywhere (hands
form a circle...the world)
Some are high (point up)
Some are low (point down)
You will see apples wherever you go (point
to eyes)
Apples on the left (extend left arm)
Apples on the right (extend right arm)
You will see apples (point to eyes again)
Both day and night (Hands together and
head down on them)

Apple Tree
Way up high in the apple tree (stretch arm
up high)
Two red apples smiled at me (hold up 2
fingers)
I shook that tree as hard as I could (make a
shaking motion)
Down came the apples, (make a downward
motion)
Mmmm--were they good! (smile and rub
stomach)
