Show your child pictures of a farmer
and a farm and explain to him that a
farmer raises and takes care of
animals. Name a few of the animals
that live on a farm, and explain that a
farmer also grows vegetables.

Make this Crowing Rooster Paper
Craft
.

Go to a farm or zoo and see farm
animals.

Let your toddler be a farmer  and
help to get the animals back into the
barn! Print out this sheet of barn and
animals
. Then cut out around each
animal and the two halves of the barn.
Tape the two barn halves onto a piece
of paper so that the barn opens up in
the middle. (Tape only the outside
edges of the barn.) Then put the
animals on the floor/room and have
your toddler collect all the animals to
put in the barn. Let him open the barn
and place the animals inside. You can
talk about the different sounds the
animals make and how many of each
there are! Why not sing Old MacDonald
while your toddler is finding the animals!

Print out and color this Hen
Coloring Page
nine times and help
your child color each one, using
the colors in the poem below.
Hold up each hen and tape it to a
board or wall as you recite the
following poem to your little one:

Hens of a Different Color
This little hen is BLACK ( hold up black
hen)
She stands in the barnyard by a big
hay stack.

This little hen is RED (hold up red hen)
She is very tired and won't get out of
bed.

This little hen is BROWN (hold up
brown hen)
She is feeling glad and wearing a
crown.

This little hen is YELLOW (hold up
yellow hen)
She's friends with the rooster; he's a
handsome fellow.

This little hen is WHITE (hold up white
hen)
She dances and plays, oh what a sight.

This little hen is PURPLE (hold up the
purple hen)
She spends her day running around in
circles.

This little hen is GREEN (hold up green
hen)
She is the silliest hen I've ever seen.

This little hen is BLUE (hold up blue hen)
She lays eggs for me and you.

This little hen is PINK (hold up the pink
hen)
She goes down to the pond to get a
drink.

All of these hens live at the farm
Out in the big RED barn.

The Farmer in the Dell
The farmer in the dell
The farmer in the dell
Hi-ho, the derry-o
The farmer in the dell

The farmer takes a wife
The farmer takes a wife
Hi-ho, the derry-o
The farmer takes a wife

Repeat with:
The wife takes a child...
The child takes a nurse...
The nurse takes a dog...
The dog takes a cat...
The cat takes a mouse...
The mouse takes the cheese...
The cheese stands alone...

Farm Sounds
(Sung to: "Wheels on the bus")
The cow in barn goes moo, moo, moo,
Moo, moo, moo. Moo, moo, moo,
The cow in the barn goes moo, moo, moo,
All around the farm.
The pig in the pen goes oink, oink,
oink,...........
The hens in the coop go cluck..........
The lambs on the hill go baa,........
The ducks on the pond go quack......

This Little Cow
This little cow eats grass.
(hold up one hand, fingers erect, bend
down one finger)
This little cow eats hay.
(bend down another finger)
This little cow drinks water.
(bend down another finger)
And this little cow does nothing.
(Bend down another finger)
But lie and sleep all day.

I'm a Little Piggy
(Sung to: "I'm a little Teapot")
I'm a little piggy
Short and stout
Here are my ears
Here is my snout
When I see the
Farmer in the dell,
I oink, oink, oink
and wiggle my tail.
